2017 is here and it’s going to be the year that makes a difference. The events of last year have already predicted this, and then there’s the feeling in my bones. And that feeling’s never wrong. But before I go on.

Happy New Year to you!
Thank you for following and reading, and liking and sharing. 2016 was a rollercoaster of a year, and I’m grateful to have you along for the ride.

Last year was exciting and came with its ups and downs. Chapters ended and new ones began. Sadness and worry came mixed with excitement and hope. On a professional level, it was the year I closed one website – my first blog that was my baby – and moved forward and opened another. It was also the year I realised I can do this; being a blogger and an entrepreneur is exactly where I am meant to be at this point.

My new site MapleandMarigold.com launched in April 2016 and I am thankful for the opportunity to share my love of making life easy, healthy and enjoyable with you.

Here’s a snapshot of what you liked most about Maple and Marigold in the past year. It was mostly tips for delicious living and foods that heal and makes us happy. Getting outdoors and being active was also top of your list, and of course that hat! Who doesn’t love that hat! It made me feel I was Audrey Hepburn!

No New Year Resolutions

I learned a lot this past year. About myself, the world around me, and about the things I want to do. I learned that:

I am a “strident” feminist and I love to cook at home. I believe the kitchen is the centre of our home and I love to be in it especially when I’m feeding my family and friends. At the same time, I’m not one to linger long in the kitchen. I like cooking that is delicious and nourishing, AND fast so that I can get out there and enjoy the rest of my day with my family. Here’s to more of that in 2017.

I am a workhorse and I tend to go through life with my blinkers on. This singular vision works very well when there are mountains to climb or kids that need to get to school on time. But I need to get better at enjoying the journey and stopping to celebrate. Watch out for that in 2017.

I’m not one to waste. My heart. My brain. My soul. I want to grow and learn and evolve, and make a difference in the world that we live in. We have this life to make an impact, and I’m so glad to have you along with me on this journey.

There is a lot of good in the much-maligned social media. Yes, communicating through the screen can be isolating but it can also be surprisingly social. All my life I’ve moved houses and lived in different cities in India, the UAE and now Canada. Social media has been a great way to stay in touch with old friends. Then there’s the added benefit of seeing how your childhood buddies have aged!

And when you want to spread the word, social media is the way to do it. It’s a great way to rally the troops – literally – whether you’re organizing a parade or a revolution.

2017 is here and this is the year that will make a difference.
2017 is the year to make a difference.
If you have something to say this is the year.
If you want to see change this is the year.

I believe a time of happiness and celebration is just around the corner. I am optimistic. But I believe it is in our hands to make this happen. Our kids are depending on us to make this happen.

Here’s to a new year filled with joy and success for all.
