The end of the year is a tumultuous time. In our home it usually starts with Diwali in late fall and then speeds into Christmas. So by the time New Year’s Day comes around I’m all done with entertaining and dining out. That’s what makes January a great time to take stock of our health, relationships and family.
Now normally I’m not one to make New Year resolutions and that’s because my mom always encouraged my brother and I to make them around our birthday.
“Your birthday is the start of your new year,” she still says.
Perhaps that’s the reason I make, and occasionally keep my resolutions. Like the one last year committing to healthy food swaps in the kitchen. There’s only brown rice in our pantry now.
This January though the world around me is feeling a little different. And finding my balance between the crazy and the calm, and the body and the mind is top priority.
Ayurveda Tea Talks and Tetley Giveaway
Recently Tetley Canada hosted a workshop to launch their new line of Tetley Ayurvedic Balance Tea. One of the things I learnt at this inspirational event was my Dosha – not surprisingly I’m a mashup of Pitta and Kapha. Yes, even my Doshas are conflicted! Pitta implies that I run hot and excitable, am quick to decide and out-spoken. Kapha on the other hand implies that I am calm, comfortable and comforting, and steady. You see the contradiction!
At the Tetley Tea Talks event I also learnt how every person is a unique combination of the 5 elements, and learning to eat and drink correctly is imperative for our longterm health. Keeping this in mind, the new line of Tetley Ayurvedic herbal teas are caffeine-free and have been created with real ingredients like cinnamon, ginger, and even orange peels. Quite delicious.A part of the event was hearing from Yogi Cameron. The main speaker, he has travelled the world with the likes of Madonna and Jean Paul Gaultier finally settling down in a small village in the southern part of India to learn about Yoga and it’s influence on our hectic lives.
Chef Lauren Marshall of Coastal Healing was also there and she talked us through “eating for your Dosha,” and how different foods can nourish in different ways. I even learnt to make Ayurveda Porridge with coconut and almond crunch. Yum!
