Welcome to Maple and Marigold! I’m so glad to meet you here. My name is Puneeta. I am a lifestyle writer, better food advocate and mom of two based in Toronto. I write about family, kids, travel, and how to make every day enjoyable, healthy, and delicious, all with a multicultural flair. In addition to my blog, MapleandMarigold, I have launched a public awareness initiative (NourishbyNumbers.com) to educate people and engage conversation around making more sustainable food choices. You can read more about my work and on-air appearances here.
I grew up in India where my family moved from one city to another every 2 years. And when that continued through my youth, even after I moved out of my family home, my grandmother warned me,
“Tere paon mein chakkar hain.”
“You have wheels on your feet.”
Seems she was right. Since our marriage, my husband and I have lived in Dubai, Toronto, Calgary, and a couple of years ago we moved back to Toronto. Along the way we’ve had two kids, Both of whom had their first plane rides when they were just 5 weeks old. At 10 and 5, they have more flying miles under their belts than most people in their 30’s because I want them to experience both worlds, the steeped-in-culture tradition of India to the modern, open spaces, natural beauty of Canada, and everywhere in between.
People who’ve known me a while are shocked that I traded in my high-stress marketing career to be a stay-at-home mom. My husband even more so. He didn’t think I would last long and he was right (and I don’t say that very often). In December 2015, I started blogging. My first platform was a South Asian online magazine that helped culturally diverse parents connect over family and food. As it was starting to flourish, I felt I needed another avenue to reach and connect with people.
That’s how Maple and Marigold was born.
A love letter to our life and travels, maple represents Canada and our home here, and marigold, with its colour and significance in Indian traditions, represents my Indian roots.
Through my writing and my videos, I take you into my kitchen where I use spices, herbs, and cooking techniques to add the flavour of India into my daily cooking in Canada. At the same time, you’ll find out that I’m not one to spend hours in front of a stove. I love shortcuts that allow me to spend time and have outdoor adventures with my family. Maple & Marigold is about my journey as a work-at-home mom, looking for new ways to stress less, eat smart, and enjoy life without over-thinking it all.
Thanks for visiting! I’m looking forward to staying in touch with you! You can read more about my blog and it’s journey here.
